Beautiful Cedar Creek Lake was established in 1964 as a water reservoir for Tarrant County, but its beginnings go back some 6-8 years prior to that.
In the late 50's, officials in Fort Worth with the Tarrant County Water Commission began a study to ensure residents living in and around the Fort Worth area would always have an ample supply of water.
What had begun in 1959, as a water source for Tarrant County has now grown into one of the most beautiful lakes in Texas. Cedar Creek Lake has 38,000 acres of water surface and 328 miles of shoreline. The lake is 24 miles long- running north & south and is one of the largest non-border lakes in Texas. It is a constant level lake, so the fluctuations experienced on other lakes around the state are unheard of Cedar Creek Lake.
In 1999, the Cedar Creek Lake area was rated as the #14 location in the nation as most desirable places for retirement. The towns of Caney City, Enchanted Oaks, Eustace, Gun Barrel City, Kemp, Log Cabin, Mabank, Malakoff, Payne Springs, Seven Points, Star Harbor, Trinidad and Tool surround the lake.
Jet skis and power boats are permitted at Cedar Creek Lake. Boat docks are permitted but must be approved by Tarrant County Regional Water District.
